It’s October! That means it’s seasonally appropriate to be drinking your pumpkin spice lattes. More importantly, it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Especially at Wool & Grace, so many of us feel the wide impact of this disease all the time (not just in the month of October). We are aware of how far we’ve come in detection and treatment, and we’re aware of how much more can be done to impact those who receive a diagnosis or those who have the BRCA gene.
Last year we collected Knitted Knockers throughout the month of October to honor this important month of awareness. This year we’re going to do have another Knitted Knocker drive, but we’re going to do even more.
For those of you who aren’t aware, Knitted Knockers are an amazing hand-knit or hand-crocheted breast prosthetic made by thoughtful knitters just like you. The Knitted Knocker organization collects and distributes these prosthetics to women who’ve received a mastectomy, lumpectomy or radiation treatments. Knitted Knockers are customizable and can come in any range of sizes, to fit any sort of woman. They are knitted up in comfortable-to-wear cotton yarns, filled with an easily washable poly fill before they reach their final home.
This year we’re bring in some Ella Rae Phoenix DK to knit up our knockers. (There are a number of Knocker-Approved yarns listed on their website.) The Knitted Knockers project is a great way to familiarize yourself with small-circumference knitting in the round, and patterns are written to knit the up with double points, magic loop or even seamed and knitted flat!

We’ll also be discounting all pink merchandise throughout the month of October!
